On Writing Well, 35th Anniversary Edition: The Cla&hellip by William Zinsser

I have been trying to buy this book for more than 2 years. Each time the publication date arrives Amazon moves it 3 months into the future. I have written to Amazon, Harper Collins (the US publishers) even the author himself. To its credit Amazon UK replied but told me nothing remotely helpful. The publishers and the author just didn't bother to reply. I only learned something useful when another reader started a discussion in which he sent me a link to an article in the New York Times saying that Mr Zinsser, now in his 90s, has gone blind. Since the 30th anniversary edition came out in 2006, the 35th anniversary edition should have been due in 2011, and we are still waiting. I have tried… Read more
Behringer 302USB Xenyx 5 Input Mixer by Behringer

I got one of these mixers to help to digitise my LPs and cassettes. I think it is versatile, has great sound quality and is really good value. The case is solid and well-made too. For example, the bundle includes the excellent Audacity software but it's version 1.2.6 and the latest stable release is now version 2.0.5 - better to get that version straight from [...] To get the Tracktion 4 software you have to… Read more

I had high hopes for this book after seeing all the rave reviews and doing a 'Look Inside' before deciding to buy it. When it arrived I could hardly believe it was the same book I'd seen online. It was a thin volume with large print and lots of empty space. The first 10% of the book was just reviews and acknowledgments. There were dozens of repetitions of the same text referring to a companion website. I paid 9.59 as opposed to the full price of 14.99 and even that was poor value for money. There are some good ideas and suggestions but nothing new and all stuff you can get free online. Most job hunters would know this stuff already. Very disappointing - this is the first time I've ever… Read more
