The Stories Behind London's Streets by Peter Thurgood
1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 18 Nov 2013
Scatter-logical in nature, sensationalist and inconsistent. Will entertain those not to bothered by accuracy, but disappoint those looking for facts.

Such a disappointment; terribly innaccurate. The author does not know the difference between Sweden and the Swiss, states the Bay of Biscay is in England, and quotes a report supposedly from a rear gunner on a mosquito aircraft. These aircraft were two man and had no rear gunner position. After this, how can anything in this book be trusted? Save your money for something better written. I wasted mine.

Stackpole market this book in their 'Military History' series, and the purchaser could be forgiven for thinking that is what they were buying. Perhaps a third-person factual narrative, or a first-person account as per Carius. Not so; this is a collection of terrible comic-book stories without the pictures. Imagine the worst children's comics with "Hans the blonde Bavarian machine gunner", then add vast amounts of improbable dialogue (why this, Stackpole?), and you have an embarrasment of a book. Total tripe. Not recomended for anyone over ten years old.
