I read this book through in one fell swoop. The writer's story of growing up with a psychotic mother is insightful, hilarious in places and reveals the valour and insight which can emerge from such challenging circumstances

This is a fascinating and highly readable work. On one level it is the story of the author's journey from contracting polio at three years old and her indomitable will to heal and come to terms with her condition. Against all odds, after extensive surgery on her legs, she became a clinical social worker, manager, psychotherapist and Reiki Master. In this, she was able to integrate her strong Catholic upbringing with her experience of spiritual healing and also past life regression therapy where she visited the Akashic Records and came to understand her current life connections with past lives.

I absolutely loved this book and read it compulsively from cover to cover. There are not many books I can read in one fell swoop.
I can't really say much to add to all the other reviews except the honesty and humility with which Bowen describes his life with Bob. I felt as if I was invited as a guest to partake of this remarkable tale and it so richly defines the relationship between a homeless man and an amazing cat whose intelligence is second to none. The animal and human relationship and respect that they have for each other creates a story of the century. Well done, James and Bob...
