I posted the below as a response comment to an earlier review - but I thought I'd post this as a review for anyone not fully understanding why the picture of this film is cropped at the top & lower portions on their TV (& for those who have not viewed the restoration documentary). The same will apply for Rogers & Hammerstein's "Carousel"

Here's an abbreviated technical response of why this DVD does fill the entire frame of your TV, hope you can stick with it.
This feature along with "Carousel" are the only 2 movies ever to be printed in Cinemascope 55 which has an aspect that would approximately require one & a half widescreen TV's to reproduce the width of the film… Read more

I have just compared several re-releases of this legendary recording.
Hallmark have just about made the worst mastering job EVER of this legendary recording. A pig's ear....the most lazy tape transfer to digital effort I've ever heard of any release anywhere.

Very poor everything - what were the movie executives thinking to position their money into this heap of dung? It's a real shame because Michael Madsen is an actor of merit & certainly the most qualified amongst this cast so it's obvious why he earned the central role (& I hope this was a good earner for him) - everyone else seemed miscast or had no on-screen presence (except for one or two of the small non-English spoken parts I presume performed by local extras).
I don't understand the purpose or the need for a film like this or why it has the need to… Read more
