Life in a Secondary Modern School (Pelican) by John Partridge
I purchased this book some years ago and its been one of those that have been on my book shelves waiting to be read because there was always something perhaps more interesting and entertaining to read. That is until now and reading it I am wafted back to my school days which was between 1956 - 1966.John really describes it how I remember it and unlike him I was in South London.

I began to write a long diatribe of why I feel John is correct but I felt having done so that it would be inappropriate to do so in this context so all I will say is that John was spot on when he wrote this book.

When my friend loaned me this book it sort of came with an apology for not being the Merckx or Coppi bographies and I knew very little of Gino Bartali's achievements or history so I did not know what to expect.
You can read a more in depth review of the book in the previous reviews but for me once I had begun to read it I did not want to stop.As you would expect being a kee cyclist I have read many many biographies of riders and whilst this mainly detail their careers too date this one goes so much deeper into not only what GB achieved but how he put his life on the line for others. Ok if you are a cyclist then you will definitely enjoy this book but if your not then I am sure that you will still enjoy reading it.Its not about supether athlete on the latestcarbo fibre bike achieving something amazing but rather two ordinary people on machines that you can buy from your local cycle shop for a reasonable price who both decide to set off on an adventure together.The adventure being cycling from Lands End to John O Groats and along the way calling into various pubs.
