Cuore (Italian Edition) by Edmondo De Amicis
Cuore (Italian Edition) by Edmondo De Amicis
This is a very well known piece of Italian literature. I used it to help me learn Italian. It is useful for that purpose as the style is clear and the narrative straightforward but I wouldn't read it for enjoyment. It is more than a bit sentimental for me.

I enjoyed Il Bar Sotto Il Mare - another book of short stories. The stories in that book were varied but often funny. These stories can be awfully gloomy, as you would expect from Storie di solitudine e allegria. All well written, clever but dark, very dark. Be prepared for some difficult subjects.
Il re dei giochi (La memoria) (Italian Edition) by Marco Malvaldi
I enjoy the series of books by Malvadi based in Pineta at the Bar Lume. They are lighthearted, the characters are engaging and the plots intriguing. I probably enjoyed this a little less than the others. The main protagonist, Massimo the barman at the bar, gets a bit philosophical about politics and religion and the plot seems to unravel in the background. But the old guys in the bar are as amusing and delightful as ever. Not one of Malvadi's best but nevertheless a good read. If a book about murder can be said to be enjoyable then it is enjoyable.
