Le Week-End DVD ~ Jeff Goldblum
Le Week-End DVD ~ Jeff Goldblum
2.0 out of 5 stars A successful failure, 22 July 2014
No debating that there are a couple of very real performances here; the film does not grandstand either, it simply takes a look at the late years of marriage. It is both impressive in its attempt to be very real and thought provoking whilst managing to also be fairly bleak and boring. Not without a certain merit, but I definitely didn't get the emotional journey I was hoping for here.
Wadjda DVD ~ Reem Abdullah
Wadjda DVD ~ Reem Abdullah
4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh and interesting, 8 April 2014
'Wadjda' offers a fresh insight into Islam, and breaks many barriers in its making. For this reason alone, it is worth seeing. Arguably a little slow, but by the final sequence your heart is lifted and you feel like change for the good is always possible in the world. Not astonishing as I'd hoped, but certainly a fantastic film that offers an antidote to the constantly watered down "issues" cinema pumped out by big studios. This feels real, and it is clear the film makers know what they are talking about.
Side By Side DVD ~ Keanu Reeves
Side By Side DVD ~ Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves passionately interviews some big names in cinema, and whilst it is interesting hearing different viewpoints, on the whole 'Side By Side' offers little to the casual viewer, and only a little more to the well versed cinema fanatic. There is some interesting material on the archiving of film, but in general, nothing here that was as exciting as I had hoped for.
