It is an inspiring and encouraging account, written with humility and humour. What excited me was the drawing together of different streams of Christianity, and the positive emphasis on blessing others rather than judging. It will be of interest to anyone drawn to Celtic Christianity and new forms of monasticism, as well as charismatic types who are interested in hearing about fresh moves of the Spirit - here's one close to home! Gender and Child Protection by Dr Jonathan Scourfield
Gender and Child Protection by Dr Jonathan Scourfield

Essential reading for any social worker in a children and families setting, this book presents Scourfield's research into a British local authority child protection team. He observes the social workers and interviews them, finding out how they talk, think and write about the families on their caseloads. He gets under the skin of social work office culture, surprising and challenging us with what he finds - are social workers really as feminist as we think we are? The book is always accessible, linking theory and practice throughout, and anyone interested in theories of social construction or feminist perspectives on child protection will find much to interest them.
