An Actor Prepares by Constantin Stanislavski
An Actor Prepares by Constantin Stanislavski

Our cinemas and theatres would be places of great delight if actors both amateur and professional would really take Stanislavski's advice to heart. The book is just as relevant to public speakers and indeed ordinary people who are concerned to present themselves convincingly. Both edifying and entertaining. Andrew Crowe

This book contains some interesting thoughts about changing habits and about learning and unlearning more generally. However, many readers will find it offensive for its insistence that homosexuality is a vice and 'a bad habit'. Were Professor Dunlap still with us he'd be lynched for political incorrectness! Andrew Crowe.

5.0 out of 5 stars All ye need to know?, 6 Sep 2000
This little book consists of scholarly translations of aphorisms and other short pieces drawn from the Tao Te Ching and other early Taoist classics. Commentary is minimal and informative. The book is not blighted by "inspirationalism". My only reservation is the illustrations - rather nice photos of flowers and landscapes, but these seem disconnected from the verbal content. The reader who can really read these ponderable and pregnant fragments may never need or wish to read anything else. Andrew Crowe.
