An excellent combi CD which shows the ability of Billy May to move with the Jazz times and to create so called novelty performances. Big Fat Brass, recorded in the mid 50's, showcases a whole host of May arrangement, and one or two of his own. Using only Brass instruments to good effect, the CD includes such old favourites as The Continental and showcases some powerful newer ones. All are distinctly Billy May and show the versatility of his arranging powers.
Bill's Bag on the other hand, transcribes to big band some hit songs of the 1960's from its then up and coming composers as well as arranging some older ones in its unique 'cool' style. Worth mention are Wayne Shorter's 'Children Of… Read more
