Frank's first solo album is brilliant, mixing numerous styles. Right from the start it has the vitality and power of the best Pixies stuff, and sounds like brash metal ('Ten Percenter'), sleek pop ('Two Spaces'), genius pomp-rock ('Los Angeles') and anthemic, sing-along stuff ('Don't Ya Rile Em'), and there's even a cover of the Beach Boys' 'Hang on to Your Ego'. There are great moments, my favourite being the end of 'Ten Percenter' and Frank screaming 'Jerk! I'm a Jerk!' The main thing you need to know about this album is it's just enormous fun to listen to, it's witty and sounds amazing. Frank proves himself to be a great songwriter even without the Pixies.
