Polish in Three Months (Hugo) by Danusia Stok
Lives up to the reputation the Hugo series have built up over he many years that I have been using them

The one thing that caused me any problem was that the pronunciations of letters of the alphabet that are identical to those of the English would, in my opinion have been better dealt with entirely separately from those that differ. This would have made it easier for me to concentrate my attention on the different ones. After all, it is the pronunciation that is most difficult for an English person. The grammar is not very different from those of some of the other European languages.
A Dictionary of Modern English Usage: The Classic &hellip by H. W. Fowler

This book is so well established that it hardly needs any more reviews. When, in 1952 at the age of 32, I started a long career as a writer, H.W. Fowler's work was essential reading and gave me instantly the start that I needed. Even all these years later, it is a great comfort to have it to hand for reference. In my opinion, there is no better book on this subject.
