I first read this book when I was 14 and it completely captured my imagination. While the plot, setting and style are excellent, what really stuck with me is the was Seyonne and Aleksander influence each other. Both are characters set and confident in who they are, who they will be and their positions in the universe, but through small, subtle and everyday actions they change each other completely and irrevocably. 10 years later, this is still my favourite book and it still fills me with awe to see the transformation of Seyonne and Aleksander. It brings the realisation that nothing is set in stone and everyone has something more in them than they believe.
