I've loved Pnau since their first album and really enjoyed their subversive experiments with electronic music that produced the odd fantastic track.

So when I found out that Pnau were also Empire of the Sun, whom I also love, I waited in anticipation for Soft Universe, hoping that it they would have carried over their pop-learnings for a more complete Pnau album.

The results in Soft Universe are a mixed bag...they've definitely carried over the pop-sensibilities but completely lost the Pnau sound. Infact, every track sounds pretty similar, with their template being the We Are The People track from their Empire of the Sun album.

I'm a huge comedy fan enjoying anything from Gavin & Stacey and Lee Evans, through to Stephen Fry and Jack Dee.

However, Michael McIntyre is not a comic I rate after watching this DVD. I enjoyed his performance on Live at the Apollo a year or so back (before he hosted) and looked forward to this DVD but it was simply not funny.

There are some witty observations but lacked any sort of comedic comments. The sketch about being naked in the gym is, in my opinion, a pot of gold for comedy, but McIntyre doesn't make the most of it and instead just "states" what is happening.

By no means is this sexist, but I found the material very focussed on women's experiences… Read more
