Just did my review of the DVD of the newer film so won't repeat what i said there - it is a good film. Not up to the JC version but well worth a watch or six (yeah I have watched it six times which is about a tenth of what I have watched the JC version!!) Blu ray transfer to me is great on both films and when you think about the age of the JC version that is quite something. However, the JC transfer is just so detailed that it can highlight the effects work a bit too much and I think in places it can make them stand out a bit as a SFX as opposed to just part of the film. At this money it is a steal. Get it now!

Nowhere near the Carpenter version which is one of my top 10 films of all time - but it works well as a prequel and the cast works well. CGI is fine to me - not on a par with the JC film but it works well and it does add to The Thing world. MEW hold the film well and some of the other actors are in pretty good form too. It works and watching the two back to back in order works well for me. Recommended and hoping they do a sequel to the JC version!
5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalga Fix, 7 May 2014
Had this for a while now and it still gets the odd spin late on a week end! I used to watch these on a wee portable TV in bed when my folks thought I was sleeping and my memories of them are unchanged - there are some classics in here and very much worth the money to have in your collection. For me the quality is decent when you think how old they are....Karloff was a genious as was Lugosi. Recommended.
