A Game of Lies: the Third Hannah Vogel Mystery (Ha&hellip by Rebecca Cantrell

Rebecca Cantrell has outdone herself (no small accomplishment) in this, her third, Hannah Vogel mystery. I love the setting of historical Berlin so strongly brought to life, and the breathless suspense of the story.

Hannah has re-entered Hitler's Germany to engage in a hazardous game: carrying Nazi secrets to the British. Bearing an assumed name, she attends the Berlin 1936 Olympic Games as a reporter. There in the stands, her long-time writing mentor dies in her arms; the first in a chain of deaths and dangers. Place of Refuge (An Emma King Mystery) by KB Wadsworth
In ancient Hawaii, break the Kapu, or sacred laws, and you were dead. Your only hope to keep breathing was to flee to a puuhonua, a place of refuge. If you made it your transgression could be absolved by ceremony and you could rejoin society. In Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, the most famous of those puuhonua has been restored and preserved as an impressive and meaningful National Park.

When Emma King accompanies her scientist boyfriend there to help him conduct endangered bat studies, she expects to relish the serenity of the lush setting and enjoy Jake's company. But when night falls, the magic quickly turns to mayhem and the sanctuary becomes a trap. As one murder follows… Read more

After reading TRACE OF SMOKE, Rebecca Cantrell's first novel in her Hannah Vogel series, I was completely hooked. Her depiction of 1930's Germany through the eyes and actions of crime reporter Hannah is suspenseful and emotionally compelling. A NIGHT OF LONG KNIVES ratchets the stakes even higher.

Germany is the last place Hannah wants to be after 3 years on the run, but it is no coincidence that the zeppelin taking her and her foster son, Anton, to Zurich, Switzerland veers off course and lands just over the border in Germany. She is wanted by powerful storm trouper, Ernst Röhm, who fathered Anton to quash rumors of his homosexuality. To Röhm, her rescue of the boy is… Read more
