5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 21 April 2006
I bought this DVD when it came out, due to the fact that Siobhan Redmond was in it - and I'm SO pleased I did! If you're looking to cheer yourself up after a miserable day, THL is the way to go. Although explicitly Scottish, anyone can enjoy its "camp" humour & enjoy all the characters flaws which make them hilarious.

Definitely worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthy read, 22 Sep 2005
"Birdsong" was one of my A2 English Literature texts and though apprehensive that I would actually enjoy a WWI novel, I found myself getting gripped by the themes and interweaved plots. As the novel closed and events started to come full circle, I found myself experiencing emotion, with the poignancy of the ending.

I found Stephen Wraysford a complicated character, yet a character who the reader could feel real empathy for, what with his experiences of war & lost loves; both for Isabelle Azaire AND the soldiers in his battalion.

Faulks' has truly created a masterpiece with the writing of this novel.
