Tangled Webs (Black Jewels Trilogy) by Anne Bishop

As an avid fan of Anne Bishop I have read all the previous Black Jewels books dozens of times and was really looking forward to this latest installment. However, Tangled Webs proved to be a huge disappointment. Although the book revealed some new tidbits about the central characters these revelations were not very interesting and certainly not enough to save the book from being dismally boring. The book had a weak and uninteresting plot. The idea of a "spooky house" might have carried a short story or at most a novella - but was not sufficient for an entire novel. The author needs to develop a new major plot-line and/or characters in order to continue with the Black Jewels universe.

This series just keeps on getting better and better. The book includes some revelations that have been alluded to in the previous books and lots of new twists and turns. Buy this book (but read the other books in the series before this one)!

The Empress sends Lee and Taro on a mission to recover a lost relative. Although the plot was OK, it was secondary to the character development seen in the book. I felt the book was not quite up the standard of "The Hero Strikes Back", but I would highly recommend it any fans of fantasy/romance.
