Well the expectation for this album was colossal. You try not to put too much anticipation on releases but for a band like this...the Godfathers of Heavy Metal...those that pretty much invented the damn thing, so it's hard not to think it might be a pretty good album. Mob Rules, Dehumanizer and the Heaven and Hell itself...if they could make it half as good as those, we'd all be happy. Atom and Evil kicks in...you know they've done it. A supremely heavy album from start to finish, the riffs and solos are some of the best Iommi has ever written, and Dio has delivered a masterclass. The whole package provides everything you need from a heavy metal record - nothing is missed. Quite possibly… Read more
Shogun (Special Edition) (CD/DVD) ~ Trivium
5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Album, 1 Nov 2008
This album is great! After The Crusade, which wasn't bad, but let's face it, wasn't the best, I wasn't sure what to expect from Trivium. In the back of my mind I couldn't get away from the niggling feeling that they were going to produce something sub-par, so when I first heard this album it blew me away! The singles early on work well, leaving time for other quality tracks towards the end - notably the title track, which is just phenomenal. A 12 minute masterpiece, and ends the album with a bang leaving you lusting for more! Can't wait for the next album, really recommended.

Sorry for the atrocious title for my review. I couldn't think of anything better. But it does reflect my thoughts on this album.

I absolutely love it and and their chart position in such a mainstream culture is testament to the fact it absolutely rules. I can't get enough of it. Butcher's Hook is probably the best song on the album for me, along with the title track and Sulfur. Phenomenal album that deserves all the praise it gets from critics, and clearly the public, considering it debuted at number 2 in the charts. An excellent album definitely worth purchasing to help get metal into number 1 spot if nothing else!
