The Small Book by Zina Rohan

5.0 out of 5 stars Small book, big story, 6 Aug 2010
An execution in the First World War has repercussions that last for generations.
Told through a variety of family members, Rohan expertly alternates their voices to create the novel's 'chapters' and her characters' changes over time gives them depth. The environment is so rich, I feel it must exist. Get to know her world and the people in it, because the ending is emotionally powerful stuff. Highly recommended.
Consumer Kids: How big business is grooming our ch&hellip by Ed Mayo and Agnes Nairn

The topic is noble enough and the authors' observations are generally interesting, but what really lets this book down is the writing. Ed Mayo and Agnes Nairn constantly tell you what you're about to read followed by a recap of what you have just read. After 50 pages, it becomes insulting. It reads like a school essay which struggles to reach its minimum word target: padded to the nth degree.
Mamma Mia! The Movie [DVD] [2008] DVD ~ Meryl Streep

An incompetently directed horror movie, which is an embarrassment to the cast and viewer. It's an insult to ABBA's music and the art of film-making. I hope Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus are ashamed.
