A bargain, for the music presented here. The selections were, I believe
taken from the LP's and not the original master tapes. Even so, the music
sparkles with no audible blemishes

Above rating applies to original film as released. This is complete on this DVD, but low
marks to the DVD producers as far as the "extras" . The impression you get is you'll get more
scenes, but all the extras are just added comments by the on camera stars that were
deleted from the comments and wound up on the cutting room floor. Some are of
interest, but this is somewhat offset by a volume level that is noticeably LOWER
that that of the film.

I had heard of Jackie Paris before seeing this, but never heard his singing. For those
not familiar with that, Paris was a jazz singer with bop leanings. He did record,
but for different labels over the years with most out of print now. Japanese CD
reissues of 2 LP's were available at the time of the film. His voice reminded me
of a higher pitched Nat King Cole; presumably Mr. Cole may have been an early influence
but Paris had more bop influences. One can't help wondering how Paris would have
fared commercially with a more middle of the road approach. But he apparently stuck
to his guns musically. This may be a factor is his lack of really big… Read more
