5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read, 9 Jan 2006
A more bittersweet story than the famous film, with more depth and exploration of character. It made me sad and tearful more than once, and although I will always love the film- especially because of Audrey- I dont think it ever captured the essense of this book to the extent that it could have.

One of my favourite Studio Ghibli productions. Wonderful animation and story.
I loved the comic relief that the pirates offer as well, and for secondary characters are very well developed.
A must for any Hayao Miyazaki fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars You must own this!, 9 Jan 2006
One of the last visually stunning traditional animated films with a beautifully developed story and loveable characters.
Everything is wonderful-- the sets, the animation, the dresses, the journey to France, Paris, the songs..
This should be a reminder of what Disney feature films could still aspire too, before greed and making a quick buck led them to completely rubbish out the 2d medium.
Kudos to Don Bluth and Gary Goldman yet again.
