I started reading this book one evening before bed. Twenty minutes later I realised that my husband had been talking to me the whole time, and was now patiently waiting for me to answer a question. I hadn't heard a word he said.

Two nights later I stopped reading the book before bed: not only was it completely absorbing, but the gradually increasing tension of the narrative made it difficult for me to get to sleep.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love books by Mike Wells? I am never disappointed in his work, and "The Drive By Wife" is his best novel yet.

Strange Soul Mates: A Short Story by C.L. Gordon
"Strange Soul Mates" is a short, snappy story about control, centering on the dysfunctional relationship between Emily and Steven, and the opportunity afforded to George to try out his invention.

The characters of Steven and Emily are well drawn and though the story is short, the issues in their relationship are clear. Steven's controlling nature and Emily's poor communication cause the crisis point in the story and I enjoyed seeing Steven's point of view before, and Emily's point of view after, the machine is switched on. I also liked a couple of hints about George's character that were dropped towards the end of the work.
