I was very pleased to finally get hold of this rare Chaka classic. Like most of her albums it's rather a mixed bag althogh I liked all the tracks from the funky 'My destiny' to the saucy 'Tight fit'. The real standouts for me were the glorious 'Earth to Mickey' and the jazzy finale 'Coltrane dreams'.

I was rather unsure quite what I was buying when I ordered this book. I was hoping for a larger, glossier affair (with lots of colour photos) than what I actually did get. No gloss, no colour photos (infact hardly any photos at all) I was quite dissappointed at first but after having spent some time looking through the pages I became quite impressed . What I did get was a concise and extremely detailed account of the career of one of Hollywood's greatest stars of the golden era. Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte [VHS] [1964] VHS ~ Bette Davis

Bette Davis teams up with Robert Aldrich again for this camp classic about a southern family with a skeleton in its closet. Bette does have a few serene moments before all hell breaks loose (the scene early on around the dinner table is a ham's delight) and Olivia de Havilland (in her last hurrah on the big screen) gets to give Davis hell. The film also offers the opportunity to see some great actors in the twilight of their careers (including Mary Astor in a swansong cameo) which for me was the main attraction. You get the feeling that Aldrich has just sat back and let the actors take over which in the end isnt a bad thing.
