This Is Christmas [Amazon Exclusive CD+Christmas C&hellip ~ Katherine Jenkins
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful album, 18 Dec 2012
Katherine has distilled the essence of Christmas music into a most beautiful album. All moods are represented here.Joyful,as in her wonderful rendition of "Hark The Herald" (complete with amazing descant on the final verse) and in "Angels From Their Realms".Reverential-her sweet tones in "Away In A Manger" and "O Come,O Come Emmanuel" spring to mind.Warm and happy-just listen to her in "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" or "Deck The Halls".Then there is the lovely, touching "Sleep Quietly My Jesus" which Katherine may be the first person to record but which she remembers with affection from her choirgirl days. And who could fail to be delighted by her playful (and slightly raunchy!) 5.0 out of 5 stars Love it,love it!!, 22 Oct 2011
On this album Katherine shows just how wide-ranging her musical influences and tastes are. From classical to folk to hymns and pop ballads, the lady sings beautiful songs with spot-on orchestration/backing.Katherine is branching out but at the same time remains true to her classical roots. Each song is a delight."And This Is My Beloved" is a real spectacular-which will set the spirits of any fair listener soaring.Other songs, like "Black Is The Colour" have a very evocative lilting quality."Your Silhouette"is most poignant.I am pleased that Katherine has returned to singing in the Welsh language with the delightful hymn tune "Blaenwern".Really though, every track contributes to the album. There… Read more

I must disagree with Mart Music on two aspects.I have Katherine's back catalogue but am very happy to pay Amazon what is a bargain price for my copy of "Sweetest Love".The different version of "Over The Rainbow" alone makes it worthwhile. And in any case,I would hate my KJ collection to be incomplete!Incidentally,I have seen the album on sale at a leading high street retailer-and it costs much more there.Secondly, the album booklet contains a potted biography which, although it covers familiar ground to some,is neverthless well-written and does justice to Katherine and her appeal.(I hadn't seen the page 2 photo of her before.Wow!Think it should have been the album cover.)

I'm… Read more
