I got to page 175 and simply gave up - and not just because I had a book by David Baldacci to go straight on to. 'Unseen' is not bad, just dull prose that goes nowhere and is rather confusing. It also appears to jump back in time with no reference as to why. Or perhaps it's simply a publishing error. The characters are not engaging or becoming sympathetic either. There is a mysterious baddie called 'Big Whitey' who supposedly operates in up-market areas such as Sarasota and Hilton Head. I really don't think so - too far fetched - especially as none of the 'action' takes place in such salubrious surroundings. In the days when James Patterson wrote his own books, he would never have introduced 20 or so characters in the first few short chapters and expected his readers to remember who they all were. It is best not to try, just get on with the story and eventually most of them fall into place. Inevitably there will be names you cannot really remember, but that doesn't matter. This is fast moving fiction.

There are two main storylines, both of which are unlikely and implausible but nevertheless quite gripping. There are two or three sub plots to break the tension, again all of interest. It's a good read, a solid four star performance and an acceptable piece of escapism.
