ChuckleVision: The Complete Series 1 [DVD]

This is a fantastic boxset. Containing 13 episodes, each based around a different theme, it features the Chuckles trying to do their own 'educational' programme by addressing the viewers at home. It is very different to the format we know and love today, but I still think it is good. Particular personal favorite episodes of mine are Breakfast Telly (the first ever episode), Fitness and Travel (both of which contain some great gags). Other aspects of this series include Billy Butler's Armchair Theatre and magician Simon Lovell. Butler's monologues are not very funny, but the way he tells them is entertaining enough, and Simon Lovell is very funny in a deadpan way and his tricks are very… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic!, 27 Sep 2011
Finally, the BBC has let ChuckleVision be released on DVD. First aired in 1987, these three episodes from the first series are full of the Chuckle Brothers trademark humour, but it may be different from what you expect. Set in a studio with each episode centred around one theme (Fitness, Halloween and Antiques), they follow a basic pattern: A sketch from the Chuckles, a monologue from a man called Billy Butler, back to the Chuckles and then some magic with Simon Lovell. But don't be put off by the changed format. In fact it works rather well, with Butler's monologues being a particular highlight (I see them as an Alan Bennett-esque monologue watered down for the kids). Overall, if your a… Read more
Phill Jupitus - Quadrophobia (Comedy Gold) [DVD]

This DVD is a re-release of a VHS that came out in 2000 of Phill's stand up. If you like him on Never Mind the Buzzcocks then you'll love this. This was filmed before he became a big name but it is one of the funniest DVDs you will ever watch. From his description of Brits in space to the lions phoning up the monkeys in London Zoo every second is comedy gold. If you haven't yet seen it or if you have I urge you to buy it. It looks all the better due to the quality being upgraded for DVD and this is Phill's only live DVD. Need I say more?
