The Long Arm [DVD] DVD ~ Jack Hawkins
The Long Arm [DVD] DVD ~ Jack Hawkins
5.0 out of 5 stars Classic british film, 8 Mar 2014
Jack Hawkins can come across as one dimensional but this quality suits well in this film of a 50's detective and the solving of a series of burglaries which could go undetected but for a death during one getaway. Idealised or not, the way policemen used to be?!!!

As everyone knows, the true story of Violet Szabo whom although she looks nothing like, Virginia McKenna plays so well and without any over the top acting so popular these days. The end for Violet is captured so violently well and, as with all these "agents" no one knew about them and their graves remain unmarked. A Violet's story fortunately survives and continues to do so.
The Dreaming Suburb. Book 1 1919-1940 by R. F. Delderfield

The first part of a two part book starting just after the end of the first world war. Terrific stories of a group of people in a south London road, Circa Croydon. A very real depiction of lives in that era.
