The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Wi&hellip by Jonas Jonasson
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 8 July 2013
A really well-crafted story. More than a little surreal, but great creativity and very funny. Made me laugh out loud and did the same for my son.

Started off like he meant to write a book with real characters, but it seems like deadline loomed, so he simply reduced this to a short story - sympathetic character immediately receives information regarding 20 year old murder from victim's sister, challenges unconvincing perpetrator who, basically, confesses immediately. No real prevarication, no hard work, nothing. Must try harder

As the title suggests, this book is full of cliches - the rogue cop; bad background, knows everyone, is prepared to break rules - the ex-wife; hard but slightly sympathetic - the hateful colleague; tyring to get him the sack, etc. It all spoils an interesting premise...
