Plug it in , stick memory card in and it ready the cards very quickly (SD memory in my case). I'm not sure that the covers add much but they aren't in the way at all, they just push into the body of the thing.
A good memory card, appears pretty fast; Its class 10 (the highest they rate) but I've read files from it at 20 - I haven't tried writing to it from my computer so I don't have write speeds but very happy with its performance. I use it in a camera (DSLR) and I've never filled up the buffer or had it slow down. I've had Transcend memory SD before and I've been very impressed - good price/performance! (Just had an expensice SD card from a big-brand company fail on my loosing all my photos from a day out) S.
