Jeopardy and From The Lion's Mouth and All Fall Do&hellip ~ The Sound

Far too young to have known this band in its prime, The Sound have always been on the list of bands too check out, however the cost and dubious reviews of re-issue quality put me off until now. Worth the wait? Big fat yes! The songs, guitar work are excellent, each album charts the great progression of this ridiculously under rated group, post punk pioneers who helped inspire many genres and bands that followed, out classing many of there contemporaries and today's current crop. Buy it you'll find something to love.

I couldn't believe me ears when I first put this on, I assumed my usual position for listening to Swans music (crouching behind my sofa with cheese in my ears, gag firmly in mouth), and then instead of the expected firm jolt to the nethers the room was filled with this inoffensive aural pap. Fearing Mr Gira was lulling me into a false sense of security, it took me some time to come out from behind the said sofa. On closer inspection you can see that the band were struggling on this album, somewhat of an identity crisis, song titles, subject matter etc bare little resemblance to the previous material, they even look completely different, probably due to pressure from the label/management to… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Sum of its parts, 8 Oct 2010
As many reviewers have stated, this album is a grower, and it surely is. To me its the culmination of the journey so far, taking the unique elements from all the previous releases and making the most complete album thus far. It sounds like the band found the vibe they were looking for and just failed to grasp on Love to Admire, and then some! Its a very big sounding album, it fills the room when played on a decent stereo and deserves listening too in full, the "shuffle play test" reveals no filler and I too can't wait to see these songs performed live. Album of the year (so far!) for me. Highly recommended.
