As a history student in her final year at university, I can well understand why those who have a passion for history, and its accurate portrayal, may have problems with the liberties taken here. However, it's important to remember that Henry VIII was not always fat and old, especially during this period! In fact, in some of the very final scenes of the series, we can see how he will probably progress into being this more typical version, and I for one cannot wait to see if they can pull this transition off. I managed to get it free in some sort of promo ages ago I think, but I would recommend everyone else to buy it. I loved this book, I can't understand why some people appear to be so disappointed with it! Yes, it's not a good read for those looking for loads of action and blood-sucking but it did actually scare me at points - with movies desensitising us so much it's nice to read something that is subtle for once!

Kostova describes the many places that we are sent to beautifully and I really got a sense of the periods of time too - being a history student I especially enjoyed this but it is interesting for others too.

I really enjoyed reading this, and its a bargain at the moment too! Give it a go...
