This month sees the release of the third full-length album from California's Lionheart on Mediaskare Records, and this follow-up to last years Built On Struggle sees the Norcal crew in familiar territory.
For those of you unfamiliar with Lionheart they are a 5-piece act from North Cali who play straight-up modern Hardcore with a metallic aftertaste very much in the vein of genre Godfathers Hatebreed. Their sound is built on a solid foundation of furious riffage delivered with a crushing intensity by guitar duo Earl Pitts and Rob McCarthy. This month sees the release of Phantom Antichrist, the latest album from German thrash legends Kreator. It is their thirteenth studio album to date, their first on Nuclear Blast Records, and it is very possibly the best album of their career, and yes that does include Pleasure To Kill.
Back in the halcyon heyday of thrash metal in the 1980s there were two distinct epicentres of the genre; America and Germany. The long awaited album is finally here; since "Sons of the System" which left everyone feeling there should have been more. "Mnemesis" is here and of a similar ilk to the album "Passenger", with its driving grooves, progressive, synthy sound and that trademark Mnemic guitar sound.
As I have stated in my reviews before, I feel the opening track to an album is all important to set the scene; and this doesn't fail to impress. That sweet guitar sound they have tweeked and improved on over the years, cuts across like the "veins of a cyborg", excellent!
