I received this book as a Christmas present and I'm delighted with it. It's huge, and packed with atmospheric photographs from the golden age of sportscar racing. It looks at the cars, circuits, teams, the drivers and even their partners and spouses, as they wait nervously in the garage or pits. Legendary races such as the Targa Florio, Le Mans, Nurburgring and even Can-Am events are featured, along with close ups of some of the most beautiful racing cars ever built (Ferrari P3, Alfa T33/3, Porsche 917, Ford GT40) and some of the lesser known cars of the period too. My children loved this book - it's beautifully illustrated and I suspect that we will be buying more from this series.

I was aware of this novel, but originally fought shy of buying it because it was fiction and I prefer to read non-fiction. However, I need not have worried, the author relates a convincing and believable tale of the Vietnam conflict as seen from the eyes of a junior officer, no doubt fuelled by his own experiences. You don't need a military background as the terminology and slang are listed in an index at the end, and to be fair it's not as prolific as some Tom Clancy novels that I have read.

It provided a nice contrast to many of the non-fiction Vietnam war books that I have read, I truly felt part of the Marine company on the ground. You don't have to be military buff to enjoy… Read more
