Wideacre (Wideacre Trilogy) by Philippa Gregory
Wideacre (Wideacre Trilogy) by Philippa Gregory
4.0 out of 5 stars The Wideacre Trilogy, 16 Dec 2013
I couldn't put this book down
I liked the descriptions of how the heroine, Beatrice, felt at one with the land on Wideacre estate.
However, I did find parts of this tale a bit dark and disturbing.
Nevertheless, a good read.
The Secret of Crickley Hall by James Herbert
The Secret of Crickley Hall by James Herbert
An enjoyable read. Crickley Hall was a former children's home, run by a sadistic man, who terrorised the children in his care. The story centres around a couple who have lost their child and the mother is convinced that she hears his voice amongst the voices of the ghosts of the children who once lived there. I couldn't put this book down.
The Ladies' Paradise by Emile Zola
The Ladies' Paradise by Emile Zola
3.0 out of 5 stars The Ladies Paradise, 4 Feb 2013
This was the first time I had ever read Emile Zola. I found his phrases over-flowery, and descriptions long-winded, so I tended to skip quite a lot. Despite this, I stuck at it, determined to reach the end, which I felt would never come. I was glad when it was all over
