The last few years have been good for fans of Tubby Hayes. The canon of recordings made and released in Hayes' lifetime has been supplemented by previously-unreleased material, usually recorded live by enthusiastic amateurs with varying degrees of technical ability and equipment. This is one of the clearest, best-sounding live recordings to emerge so far (although there appears to be a dash of fake stereo added to the master, for some reason), and, as well as sounding good, the chaps - Tubbs, Jimmy Deuchar, Terry Shannon, Freddie Logan and Allan Ganley - are on something like the top of their form. As the previous reviewer said, this is the Couriers at their best. Unfortunately, the first half of the programme seems to have been dubbed from a slightly jumpy vinyl copy, and unbelievably, there are some annoying skips. So, minus one star for not sourcing the original tapes.
