Fast moving, compelling, entertaining, violent and darkly funny.

If UTOPIA has one fault it is perhaps that it is trying too hard to be "culty", especially in the opening episodes.

Nevertheless, it's a fun and engaging ride.

2.0 out of 5 stars Formless road movie, 4 May 2013
Formless road movie directed by Walter Salles.

Salles is a very good and very visual director, so the film looks impressive, but that's about it. Unlike THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES (another road movie directed by Salles) none of the characters here are remotely sympathetic or likeable. Which makes it very difficult to care what happens to them in the movie's meandering 2 hour plus running time.

Disappointing.

Cracking historical thriller set in 1560 sees Dr John Dee sent to Glastonbury to try and locate the bones of King Arthur...

Necromancy, witchcraft, Catholic plots against the Queen, and Nostradamus are all thrown into the pot, along with some ingenious twists and turns.

Marvellously entertaining.
