Presents Charles Mingus ~ Charles Mingus
Presents Charles Mingus ~ Charles Mingus

This album is the result of an invite to record for the then new Candid Label in 1960. Mingus was given absolute freedom and is joined by Ted Curzon on Trumpet, Eric Dolphy on alto sax ( and bass clarinet on one track) and Dannie Richmond on Drums. Nearly 70 minutes of vintage Mingus - I love the way he lays down the law with the audience at the start.
Brilliant Corners/Thelonius Himself ~ Thelonious Monk

This two cd set shows the best of Thelonius Monk. Disc 1 has Monk playing with Ernie Terry,Sonny Rollins,Oscar Pettiford, Max Roach, Clark Terry and Paul Chambers. On the second cd Monk is on his own except for the last track where he is joined by John Coltrane and Wilbur Ware on bass. This set shows Monk at his best along with other legends of that era. Just Brilliant.
