She's simply incomperable as among singer/song writers. She also has a voice full of emotion but not dripping with sentiment (alla Celine and other pop divas).
This collection is melancholic and very personal. Patty herself says that she wasn't trying to make a pretty album, and that's what has kept Patty from the mainstreem. Instead of reaching for higher notes, bigger crescendos, and bleating out "I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOU BABY!" (yawn) Patty put together a load of songs about loss, loneliness, leaving, regret...
