The Encyclopedia of Early Earth by Isabel Greenberg
The Encyclopedia of Early Earth by Isabel Greenberg
I found this book just by chance... the title caught my eye. And I love it! I suppose they'd call it a graphic novel, but once you get into it you forget the format and it takes you on a fabulous journey - it's funny and poignant and magical, without being mystical or preachy, which i hate. I'd say the humour is edgy and unpredictable... which i love... and the story keeps you engaged. I'm new to graphic novels... I've never known were to start, the graphic novel section of Waterstones is awash with stuff i can't stand –  super-hero masturbatory sci-fi or teenage-dystopian-noir-angst – and this book is not like that. i feel encouraged to look for more titles like this... The Secret Life of Grandma's Cat (The Adventures o&hellip by Leone Annabella Betts
i was looking for a cat book for my cat obsessed niece (5) and i found this one quite by chance. It was a birthday present and she loved it. I think it is aimed at a slightly older child but it worked for her, no problem. There are words she didn't understand, but that made her engage with it more, 'proboscis' is such a silly word for a nose! The story has punch and does not patronise. What do cats do at night? they fly to distant planets on flying saucers of milk and land in poo. There was something of the Roald Dahl about it... great to read out loud, lots of voices to do, as a show-off-uncle i recommend this highly.

But it was too expensive to ship to the UK from the US. I opted for the Maximfoto converter, but read the reviews here on Amazon that said it was great but '' impossible to take off, without slicing thumbs". Well after an email form the seller, five minutes after i sent the query (!) he simply said lift the little tab, then twist. easy. It works, perfectly. No blood! you can twist it on and off with ease. I recommend this converter. Great price. It arrived… Read more
