Orchard Beach: The Bronx Riviera by Wayne Lawrence
I've bought this book because I was looking to some good American style portraits. The expectations haven't been disattended! Very good photo book and good print quality. Style reminds me to Bruce Davidson but with the lens aggressiveness typical of Bruce Gilden. The photos a shows the working class pride of Bronxites and each of them tells a very special and different story. Funny, beautiful sometimes tragic, since the first photo the work takes the spectator within the landscape of Orchard beach. Great work!
Savage Harvest: A Tale of Cannibals, Colonialism, &hellip by Carl Hoffman
I did not know much about Michael Rockefeller before reading the book. The story is really interesting: everything is triggered from Michael's passion for primitive art. But then expand the content towards the anthropology, the colonialism and the detective work to search for truth behind the death of Michael Rockefeller. Very well documented, it offers a great description of a world and a culture that seems far centuries ago. But everything happened in the sixties (though most of the research has been done in New Guinea by the author in 2012) Can't put it down until the end!
The Good Spy: The Life and Death of Robert Ames by Kai Bird
I've been always interested in the history of Middle East politics and I've read many books on the topic. However this book is really different. The author tells the history of a long-lasting conflict through the experience of a man. His experience as an agent, a husband, a father, a friend. There is a complexity very well highlighted in the political scene that is reflected into the social and human behaviour. I liked the book from the first page and I finally admired the life of Robert Ames. Highly recommended
