I always loved this film as a child, and recently bought the DVD which was quickly adopted by my young daughter.
She also loved watching this movie - it has some slightly spooky scenes but at just the right level not to be too scary for children.
There is plenty of action and cute little creatures to entertain the film's young target audience, but it's equally enjoyable watching this again as an adult, as the script is top class and the effects and soundtrack are still pretty outstanding given that this was produced in the mid-eighties.
This really is a truly classic family movie.

I got this book for my three-year-old daughter as a bed time story.
Although this is a bit of a departure from the Disney version of this classic story, it remains well-told and fascinating for children.
At 24 pages of mostly illustrations and short sections of text, it's just the right length for a 5 minute bed time story.
Personally I felt that the illustrations in this book are outstanding - an original style and attractive artworks that really set the scene and provide plenty of visual stimuli and clarity for children. My wife recommended this after my daughter saw it read out on CBeebies Bedtime Stories. I ordered it and my daughter (who is almost 3 years old) loves it. She asks for it to be read to her frequently as a bedtime story. The illustrations are wonderful and the story is a touching tale of friendship, which makes reference to colours throughout. This is one of my daughters favourites and I'd recommend it to anyone with children under 5, which is the target audience.
