In My Own Words:
My intent as a member of the US Branch of the International Military Music Society is to provide some good background information on CDs and Videos offered on Amazon concerning military music. Some recordings are certainly better than others and many have been re-issued and re-packaged making it harder for the discerning buyer online to know what exactly they are getting. The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2013 ~ Various Artistes
Each year I always try and look forward to the Edinburgh Tattoo CD. Since I can't get there every year its a way for me to recall the times I have in the past. Each passing year however the Tattoo seems to be losing its character. New producers and titles (its now the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo in recent years) can't erase the fact that the show is becoming more spectacle and less martial each year.

The Pipes & drums display was excellent, and the sound quality of theese recordings get's better all the time. A far cry from the older LPs of the past in that regard. Still, the show is suffering from too many repeat overseas bands. The Traditional Korean Army Band while perhaps… Read more
The Original Colonel Bogey - Complete Recordings ~ Kenneth J. Alford
These spirited recordings give us a great insight into the style of Alford's conducting style. The quality of the old Plymouth RM band is very precise and with great elan and crisp playing. This is a style of performance you don't her anymore. Most of Alford's marches are here, along with may lesser known arrangements of compositions. These along are worth the CD as the marches are still played very often today, but Alford's original compositions of novelty works for band are much less so. Here you get to see how he might have arranged for a typical outdoors concert. The sound quality of these original 1939 recordings is superb. They have been improved and enhanced resulting in a… Read more

Graham Jones has been associated with army music for some 40 years. After his recent retirement from the Band of the Coldstream Guards he took a page out of Sousa's book. He formed his own band! The British Imperial band is his inspiration. Almost all the musicians are former military personnel. Many from the Guards, which is not surprising, but a few from former line bands and the other services. There is even a stray yank from the US Marines! With UK military bands ever dwindling due to short-sighted government policy that seems to prefer social engineering in its armed forces over retention of traditions the time seems right for such a venture.

In its smart Victorian era… Read more
