The perfect novel for Anglophiles. If you understand the quirky ways of the middle-English, you will love this book. Warm and funny.

I loved the first half of this book. I engaged with the protagonist and was engrossed in the path his life was tacking and how he coped with his loss and upheaval. By the time he was an adult he was very unlikable (which I don't feel was the intention), the plot became very unrealistic, and by the last few chapters was quite ridiculous. It's a shame as I really was enjoying it at the start.

This novel is as thin as dishwater. Moves very quickly with no character exploration. Very predictable and lacking any real understanding or insight into how a fatherless teenage girl might feel and think. Very unbelivable too.
