I've successfully used a range of budget discs over the years including Bulkpaq, D-Shirt, RiTek and CMC. The secret is usually just to burn them much slower than the stated maximum. Not so with Amazon basics, which boast a maximum speed of 16x but produced nothing but coasters at 4x.
I already have freeview on the LCD TV so this was bought purely for recording. The picture isn't great - a little like watching VCR.
It usually records what you want, but sometimes doesn't - even on Series Record setting. Programmes regularly drop out of the recordings library but are still there after you turn off the power and reboot the machine. In fact I've taken to rebooting a couple of times a week and that seems to help.
