Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon ~ Status Quo
Just before the Quo achieved fame and fortune they recorded their best and gutsiest album which was to become a sort of blue print for what came after. Unfortunately the blue print got so watered down with subsequent offerings that they sounded more pop than rock. After the uninspired Dog of Two Head and a short lived glimmer of hope with Piledriver it was all pretty much downhill for those fans who loved the rawness and quite catchy songs of Ma Kelly which bridged the earlier psychedelic period.
Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus ~ Spirit
Not too many albums succeed both musically and as a cohesive whole. Sardonicus sounds as fresh today as it did when it was first released largely due to its superb production and its timeless surreal quality. Most albums have a couple of weak songs but Sardonicus' clever merging of the tracks makes everything sound essential. One of those rare albums where everything comes together. Sadly unknown by most of the music listening public.
Back In Usa ~ MC5
Back In Usa ~ MC5
2.0 out of 5 stars A step backward, 3 May 2014
After the ramshackle and blistering Kick Out The Jams the MC5 were put in straight jackets and recorded a bunch of pretty uninspiring three minute songs which sound as if they were recorded in a tin shed. It was like putting King Kong in a cage. By the time they got back on track with High Time their time had passed. Nice cover though.
