I have loved this film since I was a boy and like many others have eagerly awaited the soundtrack release thinking it would never actually happen. A small section of the music was previously obtainable on an obscure De Wolfe vinyl LP of library music called Stange Location, the music of Paul Ferris and Peter Knight, which changes hands for silly money, but now at last we have the real thing in it's entirety. Witchfinder General Digitally Remastered Special E&hellip DVD ~ Vincent Price
This is a true classic, lots of real local settings, a fabulous score (still sadly unavailable despite several promised but sadly abortive releases) and and tons of atmosphere. It is also unique for Price's completely straight character portrayal. The story is also based on fact; Hopkins was real of course, and surely nothing is more interesting than 17th century war torn english history. The first time I watched this film as a boy it captured my imagination and forty years on I still love it. Anybody who has not seen this yet is in for a real treat.

I am a big fan of of M. R. James and having just finished reading his complete works I ordered this hoping for something similar. Well, E. F. Benson certainly is a skilled writer and invokes a charming old world atmosphere to his tales. Although a contemporary of James and from a similar background, Benson's stories are very much his own, with perhaps just one or two similarities to some of the themes explored by James. Without wishing to sound unfairly… Read more
