I decided to buy this book having been drawn in by comparisons to Palahniuk in a previous review. I must say that it is not an unwarranted comparison - he and Pae seem to share the same dark humour and manic energy.
The novel centres around the unhinged Steves of the title, but features a host of larger than life characters (literally, in one case!). These characters and their actions are amusing and disturbing in equal measure (another hallmark of many of Palahniuk's books), with Pae juggling comic moments with very graphic violence and sometimes providing both at the same time.
