I must admit - cynicism and milking the cow put me off watching this movie. But when I finally did in August 2014, I thought this was the best X-Men movie of the lot. There's actually room for character exploration and emotional motivation in amongst the action. So top marks in getting the balance right.

I've now watched this movie three times, and each time I've got something out of it. There are layers and character/plot explanations not initially present upon the first viewing. No doubt the writer/director must've raged against any criticism who only saw the film on a baffling superficial level. To be honest if you allow yourself to delve deeper into the third party - mystical elements - this is great stuff. From the beautiful landscapes of wild mother nature to the intrinsic angst of the main character, Half Light is an overlooked little gem. As a rough and tumble teen back in the 70's, I can't say I was a big Professionals fan. (I much preferred The New Avengers which also deserves an HD makeover.) Having also met a very affable and approachable Martin Shaw on a TV show back in 1977, I did try to like the show. But even back then, The Professionals started to look a bit out of date with it's sometimes cringe inducing male machismo . And when The Comic Strip's Bull Shitter's then came along - well - I could never watch the show in my reserved judgement light ever again.
