1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor effort, 11 July 2014
To compare this to other similar but more exciting budget Spanish horrors such as "Shiver" is being kind to this film. Where that film was good in parts, this one isn't.

Too much of the film is blighted by terrible shakey-cam overkill. You actually feel sick watching it, while trying to distinguish what is going on. Even the closing scenes are an irritating bungled mess, providing little consolation.

If you're looking for Spanish quality - you're looking in the wrong place! 1.0 stars.

Maybe the creators of this film believed they would achieve success by simply gathering a few items of 70s tat together. Or maybe they thought they would be able to create a convincing horror film using totally lame effects - I'm not sure.

WTLWO boasts about being based on a "true" story. Actually there's nothing genuinely involving or scary here at all. A couple of close-up camera jump scares and that's it. From an horror fan's point of view "When The Lights When Out" is an unconvincing portrayal of a supposedly significant event in Britain's supernatural history. 2.0 stars.

Evil Dead [DVD] [2013] DVD ~ Jane Levy
3.0 out of 5 stars Meh..., 1 July 2014
Evil Dead begins with a scary and wickedly effective scene using some quality special effects. For a few moments, you're convinced Evil Dead is gonna be great stuff. The excitement isn't sustained though, and that atmosphere soon disappears. Gory and squeamish scenes are the the order of the day (and night). Arguably for this film though, that simply isn't enough. Evil Dead doesn't supply the substantial new twists it promised. The result is merely a by-the-numbers gore fest. Without giving too much away, power tools are tediously utilised. Exactly. The ending is similarly uninspired too.

If you've seen the original, you'll be unimpressed with this distinctly average update. If… Read more
